Leaf Mold Compost Fine

This is the famous and original leaf mold compost. The name Leaf Mold comes from the old English word “Leaf Mould” which means produced by a very slow breakdown of leaves (from trees and shrubs) into rich humus. Many horticulturalists widely recognize this compost as the best compost available and has repeatedly proven itself for over 30 years. This product is produced primarily from:

  • leaves
  • grass clippings
  • horse manure
  • food waste

It is composted for 18-24 months to ensure the highest quality and maturity. After a long slow composting period it is screened for consistency and size. This product is rich in beneficial microbes which promote healthy soil that is naturally resistant to pests and disease.

We carry the Leaf Mold in two different screen sizes , the Fine (3/8″) & the Coarse (1/2″).

The Fine is great for use in potting mixes and top-dressing lawns. The Coarse is ideal for use in vegetable gardens, flower beds or under new turf grasses.

Recommended use:

Annual or bi-annual maintenance:
Top Dressing: Each year, add a 1/2 to 1/4 inch layer of leaf mold compost to the surface of the soil as a top dressing. This helps to maintain soil fertility and structure. Over time, the compost will work its way down into the soil through natural processes like rainfall and microbial activity.
