What is the difference between mulch and compost?
In the simplest terms, compost is more decomposed and is for adding nutrients to the landscape. Mulches are a top dressing that provide 3 main benefits when applied 2-3 inches thick. The 3 benefits are weed suppression, water retention, and soil temperature regulation. A side benefit is that over time the mulch will decompose adding nutrients to the soil.

Our compost, mulches, and soil blends are alive with microorganisms and we want to keep them alive. These are the good microbes that we don’t want to die and have the bagged product go anaerobic.

Aeration reduces compaction and leaves a void which can be filled with compost, or a lawn mix to incorporate material into the soil profile. This is not necessary but will decrease the rehabilitation time.
