Experience:

Compost Technology & Engineering: I have studied and managed a commercial composting operation which requires knowledge of the physics, chemistry, fluid dynamics/modeling and microbiology of the composting process. I have extensive formal education in physics, chemistry, and geology (soil science, soil physics, and fluid dynamics/modeling). I have studied horticulture since the early 70's when I started gardening as a hobby. For over 16 years at NWR we have been producing both high quality soil, mulch and compost for use in horticulture as well specialized fungal and bacterial based composts to solve geologic engineering, soil engineering, erosion control, bioremediation and other ecological problems. The business, Nature's Way Resources has been recognized nationally in the Wall Street Journal for the quality and value of their products as well as locally in winning the Houston Chronicle's "Ultimate" award for the finest quality compost and related products available in Houston.

Horticulture: I have been an active gardener and landscaper as well as a hobby for over 30 years. For the last 30 years I have been propagating and testing plants, soils, mulches and composts for landscape use in Houston area gardens. After a severe (life threatening) reaction to a common agricultural fungicide 24 years ago I have actively studied biological methods for horticulture/gardening (organic or chemical free). In addition I have focused on the use of native and well adapted perennial plants in landscaping applications. I have been making and experimenting with compost for over 27 years to solve various ecological problems and for use in gardens, yards and greenhouses. Photographs of my home landscape and test gardens have been featured in several gardening books and in magazines such as "Better Homes and Gardens."

Drainage/Erosion Control: During my undergraduate studies I worked for a engineering department for 32 years as an engineer in the drainage, flood and erosion control areas. This was followed by graduate studies in both geology and physics and field work with the USGS. I have served as a soil consultant using compost to stabilize erosion prone areas and in vegetation establishment. I have consulted on wetlands establishment and other revegetation projects in many areas around the region. I have also worked on several in situ soil bioremediation projects using compost as well as odor removal (biofiltration) using compost.

Ecology/Environment: For the past 9 years I have served on the HGAC solid waste committee for this region. HGAC is involved with studying and implementing solutions for solid waste from household garbage to recycling and composting. I have also served on the HARC environmental foresight committee for studying all environmental issues for our area (flooding, habitat loss, air and water pollution, urban sprawl, subsidence, etc.). I have also have provided specialty soils for many LEED projects in our area from landscaping to Green Roofs and in remediation of other green roofs that were failing.

Industry: Prior to starting Nature's Way Resources, I worked in the oil industry for 15 years as a geophysicist involved with the international marketing of multi-million dollar packages of geophysical software, super computer hardware and data processing services.
